Q: What kind of metal do you use in your designs?
A: I use only nickel-free 14k gold filled components (ear wires, clasps, extender chains, etc.). I believe that it's the optimal blend of premium quality, long lasting durability, and affordability.
Please note that a few designs incorporate vintage brass beads as part of the design; this will be noted in the product listing.
Q: What exactly is "14k gold-filled"?
A: I like to think of it as the middle ground between gold plating and solid gold. Gold plating is such a thin wash of gold that it's neither durable nor good for sensitive skin as it's too thin to protect the skin from the base metal underneath. Gold filled features an outer layer of gold that is approximately 100 times thicker than plating over a nickel-free core. I use it because it is durable and long-lasting with proper care.
Q: Is Alice Rise jewelry okay for sensitive skin?
A: The reason I use nickel-free 14k gold-filled components is because I believe they are the most likely to be okay for those with sensitive skin. However, everyone is different and there is no one-size-fits-all solution.
Q: Can I go swimming with my jewelry on/wear it in the shower?
A: Yes! I'm the kind of person (especially with bracelets!) that likes to put jewelry on and forget it's there for weeks or months. Be aware that the color of the gold may darken slightly with time, especially with repeated exposure to harsh conditions such as chlorinated or salt water, but will otherwise be unharmed.
